This is Phoebus, our 14 week old kitten
who is missing his rear right foot. My fiancé and
I adopted Phoebus recently after hearing about him from
a friend of the wonderful woman fostering him. We didn't
think twice and went for a visit, fell in love, and one
hour later welcomed him into our home. Every day I ask
him where he put his foot but he doesn't seem to even
know it's even missing the way he races up the stairs
and jumps from chair to chair! Phoebus is a great little
boy with so much energy and lots of love. The vet thinks
his foot may have been "squeezed" off by the
umbilical cord in the womb, though it may also be likely
(more so to me) that it's a congenital condition. Phoebus
was just meant to have three feet! Who cares, though.
Phoebus is a healthy, spunky, and absolutely lovable boy
and a great addition to our family! He's also trying to
be a good little brother to his older sister, Clara :-) |

Clementine was found on the street missing her right
eye. She steadfastly refused to tell anyone the circumstances
of her loss. (It's obviously still a painful subject
that she will never discuss). Luckily, the kind woman
who rescued her was not put off by Clemmie's reticence
and very generously paid for a vet to stitch closed
her eye socket to prevent infection.
Now aged 9 (as of 2007), Clemmie has adapted pretty
well to living with just one eye. She is careful to
keep stranger-dogs on her left side, so that they can't
sneak up on her. Amazingly she can still spot a squirrel
from a great distance - long before her dual-eyed companion
(Brimm, the Doberman) even knows why Clementine has
taken off like a flash.
Unfortunately, she suffers from chronic pannus (a syndrome
that causes a "fleshy" type of tissue to accumulate
in and on the eye) in her remaining eye, for which she
has been on daily medications for several years. She
is a real trooper about having drops and ointment dabbed
in her eye every day - no struggle at all. She certainly
doesn't want to lose the left eye!. |
